Japanese Encephalitis

Japanese encephalitis is a viral disease found in South-East Asia and the Indian subcontinent. The infection is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito.  Symptoms can include:

  • high temperature (fever)
  • seizures (fits)/convulsions
  • Meningitis/stiff neck, headaches
  • encephalitis
  • confusion
  • uncontrollable shaking of body parts (tremor)
  • muscle weakness or paralysis
